I'm into a big fan of using mass media images in my art BUT I see some possibility in this particular technique. In this video she takes an image from what looks like a fashion mag, glues it into her journal, gessos over the top of it and then colors it by hand. Because the features are muted and dulled it would be very easy to turn that image into a zombie or dirty it up pretty fast. I'll try it out and see what I get. Zombies. Yeah. I love zombies. Killer fashion zombies. So cool!
Oh wait where am I'm going to find fashion magazines? We don't have any in the house.

Another interesting technique that I have used before is to color the image with black gesso and you have an instant silhouette. Works great when layering.

I don't like using other people's art. I love what others have done with it, but it doesn't work for me. HOWEVER, I am going to print off some of the pictures I took of Girl2's soccer games and try this for some sporting pages!

I agree, it seems like cheating. However I was keen top try this technique because it seemed interesting. Im pretty sure you could do this with a photo too, I think youd have to be careful with gesso on that though. I think that this technique changes the image enough that it makes it your own. Plus you could make some neat commentary on stupid fashion mags.
